This is a ongoing series of functional anthropomorphic vessels where I explore both the physical & the psychological relationships between function, form & surface with various clay bodies using the implementation of casted parts off of the human body. I cast these body parts with a material called alginate (the same material dentists use to cast your teeth!) because it has a memory that picks up every detail & remains to be an accurate depiction of those who donate their body parts to me. (Thanks friends!)
This series stemmed from my desire to figure out how I could combine my love for figurative sculpture, live theatre exercises (especially freeze frame tableaus in which I feel the permanence of ceramics can capture) and functional tableware all into one coherent practice.
